About the Carolinas

North Carolina ranks as the 21st largest state and South Carolina as the 40th largest state.

North Carolina is the nation’s leading producer of furniture, textiles and pharmaceuticals while South Carolina produces cotton and soybeans.

North Carolina is home to nearly 75 public universities and colleges and 41 private institutions, South Carolina to nearly 55 public and private institutions.

The variety of North Carolina’s three geographic regions (Coastal, Piedmont and Appalachian Mountains) provides an excellent setting for hiking, fishing, rock climbing, whitewater rafting, boating and camping.
