bioMérieux - A success story in North Carolina

We are proud to count bioMérieux as FACCC member that year after year, renews its trust. bioMérieux is part of French Life Sciences history.  The Mérieux have a family tradition and a century-old commitment to the fight against infectious diseases.

Marcel Mérieux, who studied under Louis Pasteur and founded the Mérieux Institute, Dr. Charles Mérieux, Alain Mérieux, and Dr. Christophe Mérieux have devoted their lives to biology with a goal of improving health worldwide. By creating bioMérieux in 1963, Alain Mérieux has carried on this family tradition.

A global leader in in vitro diagnostics for more than 55 years, bioMérieux has always been driven by a pioneering spirit and unrelenting commitment to improve public health worldwide.
The Company is present in 43 countries and serves more than 160 countries with the support of a large network of distributors. It provides diagnostic solutions that improve patient health and ensure consumer safety.

In 2018, revenues reached €2.4 billion, with over 90% of international sales (half of which in the US). 

Its products are mainly used for diagnosing infectious diseases and some critical illnesses. Its diagnostic solutions are also used for detecting microorganisms in agri-food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic products. 

bioMérieux USA is headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, where the story began in 2001 with the $263 million purchase of Organon Teknika Diagnostic.

Its development is both based on internal and external growth. bioMérieuxinvested in the USA with the $60 million purchase of San Diego's AviaraDx on September 2008, the $450 million purchase of Salt Lake City-based BioFire Diagnostics on September 2013 and recently the $75 million purchase of Philadelphia 's Invisible Sentinel on February 2019.

bioMérieux employs about 10,100 people globally and about 1,000+ in Durham,(doubled in 15 years) and 3,000+ globally in the USA. Stefan Willemsen is CEO of bioMérieux, USA since 2015.
