FACCC Mission France 2019: Lyon and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region

The French city of Lyon hosts the #1 French biocluster - Lyonbiopôle has the second highest concentration of medtech and biotech companies in France. They nurture 3 major universities, 6 clinical research facilities, and 9 world-class R&D facilities. Lyon is also strong in banking, gaming, software development, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, and benefits from a thriving start-up scene. Sound like the Triangle?

Aware of these similarities, the Research Triangle Regional Partnership (RTRP) expressed interest in having a better understanding of the Lyon and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, and connect with local key players in order to build a partnership between France and North Carolina.

FACCC organized a custom-designed discovery trip for RTRP in June, including a series of meetings, company tours and workshop.

Our team accompanied Ryan Combs, RTRP Executive DirectorJames Xu and Christopher Chung - CEO for the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina (EDPNC) to:

  • meet with French CEOs having a long experience of international exchanges,
  • visit bioMérieux world headquarters and discuss with some of their Executive Team,
  • discover Lyonbiopôle - French #1 cluster for biotechnologies,
  • work with Invest in Lyon and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Team Export (ARAE, CCI, CCEF...)
  • present RTP region to local companies.

This first mission in France for RTRP is the kick-off for many exciting opportunities for both sides of the Atlantic.
